Seal Beach gets its name from the seals that once frequented its beachfront, but it’s now a quiet little beach town with cute neighborhoods. The 1.5 miles of beach are ideal for kitesurfing, windsurfing, and building sandcastles. Seal Beach is also home to the second longest wooden pier in the state of California, which was built in the early 1900s and rebuilt in the 1980s after a storm.

With miles of hidden coves and beautiful canyons, Laguna Beach is a great Southern California coastal destination. Touted as “a year-round retreat for art lovers, outdoor adventurers, beachgoers, families and romantics,” there’s certainly something for everyone. While you’re there, consider trying skimboarding — a fun water sport started in Laguna Beach in the late 1920s when Laguna Beach lifeguards used to skimboard on pieces of wood.
